Christmas update on knitting

I finished up knitting two caps for my two toddler grandsons. I then knit a set of mittons for one of them just in time for the snow. Unfortunately, I only had one done, but he made the most of it!!

I am now going to knit a matching scarf for my grandson in LA. My daughter wants to have something knit on it that will interest my 1 1/2 yr old grandson in wearing it at all! I am figuring out how to do that now in such a way that the back of the piece won't look horrible when knitting two colors. If anyone reading this happens to know how to make the back of the scarf NOT look messed up (front looks fine with the little birdie figure on it), I would appreciate a reference on how to handle this.

I usually get my yarn from a shop in Bend where a friend of mine works. Does anyone know of any shops closer to McMinnville, Oregon?

I want to knit another blanket but want to locate a good shop closer to me. Thanks for any data on this.

I never knitted until I heard about the fact I was going to have a grandchild. I started knitting for that grandson. Then, my other daughter told me she was pregnant, so I started knitting for my second grandson. I haven't stopped since that day 2 years ago. I work full time, but somehow I slide time in first thing in the morning to knit a few inches or just a few rows!! It is such fun. It keeps me connected with my family as I am always doing something for them!
